History and Mission of YOKEN
Research Institute of Early Childhood Education
The Research Institute of Early Childhood Education--Yoken-- was established in April 1966 in the Faculty of Education at Hiroshima University, based on a ministerial order under the National School Establishment Law. The goal of the institute is to successfully conduct comprehensive, empirical, and interdisciplinary research dealing with early childhood education, especially from the viewpoints of both pedagogy and psychology.
For applicants to the Master/Doctor programs
In the institute, there are two specialized courses: early childhood education, and childhood psychology. Those who are interested in a particular program should consult a researcher in that field.
Applicants to the Course of Early Childhood Education
We study proactive play, theories, and methods that build a firm foundation to learn in primary education, taking the various characteristics of childhood into consideration.
